win8 Default Browser setting

Hi,

Completely uninstalled the non-portable Firefox 23 using RevoPro so I am sure that no remnants remain. I also did a full Registry scan.

I installed FirefoxPortable 24-ESR (yes, I KNOW how ESR works) and installed NoScript etc addons and all is working fine.

I set the Options/ Advanced/ General "Always check to see if ... default" to checked.

But, when I click on a link in any other program that used to launch firefox it now launches a bare version of Firefox without NoScript and other addons. They are not even listed in the "Add-ons" menu option.

Is that loading in Safe Mode or what?

Whatever it is it is wrong to launch FFP with NoSript etc disabled.

How can I fix this?

Thanks

No Default

You can't set the copy of Firefox inside Firefox Portable as the default. If you do, it will run in local mode. This is because it's a completely unaltered version of Firefox within and will run like a normal Firefox install would.

If you want Firefox Portable as your default browser in Windows, you'll need to manually set FirefoxPortable.exe as your default browser, not firefox.exe.

That is sloppy

you'll need to manually set FirefoxPortable.exe as your default browser, not firefox.exe.

It would have been helpful to describe how to do that. The File Associations of win8 do not make that easy.

Why doesn't the installer correct the links to the Portable.exe version?

That would be a good start, but firefoxportable.exe gets worse. In the Registry I manually changed all the "App\firefox.exe" to point to the \FirefoxPortable.exe but then that does not pass any command line parameters (switches) to the inner version firefox.exe

This is pretty basic programming stuff and should be part of the portable version if it is to be a true replacement.

Portable

Because it's portable software. It's not supposed to affect the local machine permanently. That's one of the main tenets of portable software.
