Why do you gray out Skype's built-in updater if it asks me to update anyway? Using Skype Portable V6.10.0.104 (currently your latest).

We don't. Skype updater will show up in the portable version when run on a PC with the local version installed. Skype's setting of whether to check for updates is set per the whole PC.

It's grayed out, with no local version installed, and still asks me to update.
The setting isn't portable and is tied to the local PC. If there was ever a version on the local PC, it's set to on. We can't affect it from the portable version without requiring admin permissions to run.
Skype seems to be getting worse with each release, so this isn't surprising.

I don't think I had it. But let's say I did, where would the settings be located?
There are HKLM\SOFTWARE\Skype\ and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Skype\Phone\ but they're empty.
Update: I've regenerated the date of this post in hope to bump it and get a reply.
I don't know. But it is on the local PC within HKLM somewhere, I assume (hence requiring admin rights to affect it).
