Where does Thunderbird save the passwords to access POP3 accounts

Where does Thunderbird save the passwords to access POP3 accounts? On the flash drive or desktop pc it is using?

Does it leave any trace of the messages on the PC (Temp folder, registry)?

\Data\profile\signons.txt, which, as John noted, is on the external drive.
