iobit Driver Booster

Hello all, first just want to say have been using portableApps for a little while now and love them. Thanks to all who take the time to make these. I have an app that i thought would be beneficial to have portable. iobit Driver Booster.. http://www.iobit.com/driver-booster.php

It scans the computer and tells you what Drivers are outdated and will download and update them for you. I have used it a few times and it seems to be one of the better driver updaters (I have tried a lot). tho its not something you need to use on a regular bases so installing it is kinda pointless imo. I know you guys have quite a few other iobit products so I am sure this would be no different.

I have tried to make it portable myself using the guides and software found on this site but I lack the knowledge or skill required to figure it out Sad .
Any help with this would be wonderfull and I am sure others would like it as well.

Thanks

Just a question

Why would you need a portable version that updates drivers which means it writes to host system which sort of defeats the idea behind PortableApps? If for technical reasons of going to friends computers to assist would it not make more sense to install it on there system and then just carry it on a flash as an installer?

For me the whole point of

For me the whole point of portable software is to stop the need to reinstall everything and set it up how I want on a fresh Winstall. Your idea of keeping the install file on a USB drive is fine, if you don't mind installing every time you want to use it on a different computer!

I help out several people with PC issues and constantly installing software is a pain in the ass! Having a portable version saves a lot of time and hassle. One installation is all that's needed and it doesn't add to the bloating of system resources causing issues for those with less powerful systems. Admittedly it's only negligible, but add the other 20 or so negligible additions and you have a fair amount of resource hogging going on.

That's one of the bonuses of portable software that many users don't see. Portable apps only use resources when running, unless it's told to do otherwise for some reason dependant on the app.

I have everything possible made into a portable app to keep the system clean, avoid re-installation and so I know where everything is to do with each app. There are certain things that cannot be made portable but Driver Booster isn't one of them them.

DB is pretty much portable as it is, but uses the registry for settings it seems. This is where I get lost with when making apps portable, I'm not brave enough to go messing about with the registry too much. Specific minor tweaks are ok but understanding where apps save settings, capturing them all then making apps right and remove these settings is something I'm not ready for yet.

But I give a +1 for this app to be made portable. One day I hope to be able to fully use the portable apps launcher and make my own apps, but until then...

Live for an ideal and leave no place in the mind for anything else.

My point exactly....Um that sounds like what your end goal is, to download install and update drivers? I am veery familiar with what PortableApps does and does not do. I too tech computers since 1982.

You make some points I wish the best of luck to you in your search for the le to unlock your goal.

Sometime - admin - don't want

Sometime - admin - don't want to install some sort off app on OS in company and do quick job from flash without messing with systems. It's my reason.
It's good to have it.

but here you need

admin rights and thus admin access and you are going to install new drivers thus modifying the system.
This is what it is about. This is why some people see this kind of software questionable as portable.

Yes, I do it in that way. I

Yes, I do it in that way. I reduce privilege for workers and on some time go to PC and update some drivers - having passwords for admin account - from restricted user account. In that way I shouldn't install more app that workers need to work every single day.
