I am a long time PA user. I recently downloaded the beta version 12 beta 2, however, when I add the line under [DisplayOptions] in the ini file, as instructed, I still see the icon. Though I am using Win 8.1, this works with the regular 11.2 version. Is this something that is known? A search of the forum did not turn up anything related tot his circumstance.
Thanks for you help in advance.
Are you sure there aren't either two DisplayOptions sections and that you're not altering it while it's running (it has to be closed)?

Thank you for that quick response. I double checked the ini, which I can post if you'd like, and I did not see a second DisplayOptions section. I am aware that it has to be closed, I was previously using this functionality in 11.2. I hope that helps, please let me know what else I might provide to work thru this.
Please post the ini if you can. If you're uncomfortable posting here, just email it to the developers email address on our contact page.
Note that I have not yet tried it with the taskbar icon disabled in Windows 8.1 as it's an uncommon feature.

File sent. Thank you for helping.
Did you receive the file I sent? Were you able to recreate the issue? Any timetable until a solution can be identified?
The issue may be win8.1 specific. I am unable to boot my win8 VMs remotely via laptop and I haven't been able to sit at my desk for a few days (see site header). if it is win8.1 specific, it may simply ignore the directive we use. this would not be surprising as the system tray is basically deprecated at this point, which is the whole reason the platform appears in the taskbar by default from win7 on.

I have confirmed that this is an issue specific to Windows 8.1 in both the stable and beta platform releases. I have added a note about it to the support entry on disabling the taskbar and added it to the platform bug tracker here: https://portableapps.com/node/28593

Hiding the taskbar icon via the INI is working for me on Windows 8.1 Update 1.
