Hi there,
I am helping a friend who installed portableapps but didn't like the fact it renamed drives (well semi renamed them), I searched and told him about editing the autorun.ini and changing the label as instructed on here. He did this but said the name remained portableapps.com so he asked me how to remove portableapps, again I checked here and saw it was a 'snap' and got him on the flashdrives to remove the portableapps dir and autorun, he instead formatted the drives so basically the same.
So according to him he has no drives with portableapps on but after a reboot he still was unable to change the drive names when plugged in.
So this makes me think its still being ran somewhere, does portableapps reside anywhere else apart from the flashdrives its on, also does it have a backup different program name that it runs?
I've removed any references to it in the Registry and checked via MSconfig if its loading elsewhere on startup but so far found nothing.
Can anyone offer me some help on this as its not software I've used myself, I've tried the normal routes but it could be anywhere?
Many thanks...
The only change is the autorun.inf. Windows is kind of dumb though and will cache changes in autorun.inf until reboot. So, even if you rename it within autorun.inf or delete the autorun.inf, Windows Explorer will retain the name until you reboot. Nothing else is affected anywhere on Windows.
