Can the devs work on an alternative to XAMPP environment?
I used XAMPP recently and they have stated that the mods to it are because people were complaining about being hacked, I pointed out that if people ate stupid enough to use a computer on the internet without a firewall then they deserve everything coming their way.
They insisted on keeping the nanny interface and mods, in reality, it now officially sucks.
So can someone develop a full blown environment that gives MySQL, SQLite, PHP, Web server and a few other bells and whistles in addition please.
in school, we use on USB key the Uniform Server Software : http://www.uniformserver.com/
The only thing it require is the Visual C++ 2008 redistributable package in the computer. (download at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=A5C84275-3B9...)

The XAMPP is buggy on a 64bit win7 machine anyway. So a stable portable Apache/Mysql(i) specialy for Joomla development would indeed be extremely handy and is asked for.

I'm working on WinLAMP, a QT based solution. I'm actually building it to be portable, and will be uploading the code to github soon.
