Fixed: PDFTK Builder doesn't open

Hi:
I installed PDFTK builder in my portableapps folder and a menu item appeared. When I tried to start it I got the portableapps pdftk icon that stayed on for a second or two and then closed.
I tried running, running as administrator (I never got the chance to enter a password) and ran from the gui, the PortableApps program folder and even from the portableapps pdftk app folder. No joy.

Does anyone else have this problem, or even better, has anyone else solved it?

Thanks
Jojo

details on PDFTK

Hi John:
Thanks for your reply. The data you asked for is:
Full install path:
C:\Users\jdubow\Desktop\PortableApps\PDFTKBuilderPortable.exe

This is the path to the PortableApps folder that I have on my desktop and that gave me the problem I described. I also have a USB version that I use regularly. I installed the desktop verson since it loads and runs faster on the USB flash drive and I use PortableApps a lot. I also use the USB,a 32Gb flash drive, that holds the approximately 4Gb portable apps plus data, for home, library and other workspaces.

The language is English.
It is the original installation from 6/25/2012 (according to last modified date on the file), although whether it was updated using the portableapps updater function I don't know. The included folders App, Data and Other all have a modified date of 2/19/13, although I don't know how modified.

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise with SP1 64 bit, Intel Core I7 2720QM with 8Gb ram. My security software is Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection.

Based on what I've read here, PDFTK seems to have a spotty development record, so I don't want to burden you or the other moderators with racking your brain for a solution. If one is available, great, I'll use it. If not, I can forgo this program as I have so many other useful PortableApps programs (around 65 of them) on my USB drive that do work. Thanks a lot for your attention.

Hm

I runs here on my Win 7, but thats Home Premium.
Maybe the enterprise bit or a recent update changed something. The developer of PDFTKBuilder stopped working on the app in 2009 so it might stop wotking in the near future.

I know what I need to do now. Thanks

Hi Simeon:

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try to run PDFTK on my Windows 7 home premium later tonight using my USB flash drive. I'm also going to delete it from my workstation at the office. As you said, this hasn't been developed for a while and other tools will do as well or better even as this version becomes ever more incompatible.

Thus this thread is closed as far as I am concerned. Thanks to everyone for the help.

all the best
Jojo
