Apache OpenOffice Portable 4.1.1 Dev Test 1 (Released)

Application: Apache OpenOffice
Category: Office
Description: Office Suite

Distribution Notes: This is a development test version of Apache OpenOffice Portable for use by the Apache team to verify and comment on trademark treatments and the PortableApps.com development and testing community to test features and functionality. As the trademark usage is not yet approved, it is not licensed for redistribution on third party websites. A release version should be available shortly that will allow redistribution. Thank you for understanding and assisting with the test process.

ScreenshotTesting Notes: This package has our expected featureset: path portablization, Visual C++ runtimes for use on Windows XP machines without them, portable fonts, inclusion of standard fonts included with an Apache OpenOffice local install, etc. All the usual testing criteria apply.

Languages: This package includes English (US and GB), Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian and Portugal), Russian, and Spanish. Arabic is not included as it is unavailable. The final release will include a Multilingual-All version with all supported languages as well.

Trademark Notes: The current build should address all trademark notes raised by the Apache OpenOffice team as per our last email.

Upgrade Notes: Your settings from OpenOffice.org Portable 3.x may not work with this upgrade. Please report your findings.

Awaiting Feedback

Some of the Apache folks now have this and we're awaiting feedback on the branding.

Meanwhile, how are folks finding this build from a functional standpoint?

Sifr Icons for OOo?

I've tried the OOo 4.01 dev1, and still using it as my default "Office" (still faster than LibO).

Wonder when will you release the final version and can you add the Sifr icons like in LibO?

Thank you for all your works Smile

Sifr?

Not sure what you mean by Sifr. Nor which icons. It uses the standard ICO and PNG icons that all our apps use.

As far as speed, both OO and LO Portable launch in under 2 seconds from a hard drive. LO loads a bit more in the beginning since it has multiple features that OO lacks. But in actual use, neither of them have any sort of 'slow' feeling. Keep in mind that the first run of each will be slower than normal, LO since it rebuilds the app cache on first run and OO since it shows the registration screen.

Flat/Modern icon set starting from version 4.2

There's link on how to enable it (not default):

It's mentioned in the Wiki's article:

About speed:
It's from my day to day comparison, not first run. I'm doing a document with around 100 or so pages (A4), and LibO starting to get slow, but not in OOo--that's why I'm returning to OOo and waiting for this 4.0.1 final release from you.

But after reading the Wiki article, I kinda like this new Sifr/flat icons set. Just wonder if you can customize your final OOo and add this to the Tools > View > Icon set options. That would be NICE Smile

Standard OO

We package up a standard OO install without removing anything. The only thing we add are language packs to (since OO has all separate language packs, unlike LO). The Sifr icons are in a standard LO install and are what I use in my copy. If the icons are in a standard OO Windows install, they will be in OO Portable. If they are not, they won't be.

Updated to 4.1.0

It's been updated to the new Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 release. Still no word from Apache, so this is still unsupported, unofficial, and can not be redistributed. For production use, we recommend LibreOffice Portable as it's always been fully supported by the publisher and PortableApps.com.

Works

For what I have tested, 4.1.0 works just fine on Win7 (x64).

OpenOffice Portable Beta

Installed yesterday and have had several hours of use with no problems identified. This seems much more stable than LO in that all functions work as expected. Mostly working with "Write" but Calc also seems fine so far.

It's all good

Thank you for keeping it up to date. Somehow X-Winpenpack's version just not working.

I'm using it for everyday work, and since version 4.01 Dev Test:

IT'S ALL GOOD.

So..., why do Apache people took so long to approve this good software?

Hope they'll come around sooner than we thought.

Thanks again, John!
Smile
~Happy OOo user.

Drop it!

I would say to stop this confusion and keep on working with the Document Foundation, as they are more reliable! Wink
