Going from XP to Vista screwed up my profile?

Hello this is a really weird incident. I use Portable Firefox 2.0 on a seperate partition from my windows partition. I downloaded the latest release of portable firefox from its main page yesterday and created a new profile with it, I only copied over my existing bookmarks file. Everything was working fine.
Today I installed Vista over my Windows partition, full install, but now firefox has some weird problems. My bookmarks are not all showing, only those in subfolders. Firefox forgot my homepage and other settings, and my extensions forgot their settings. From what I understand my prefs file was completely erased. I am not sure how or why this has happened, but I figured I should report this behavior.

It shouldn't affect it

Unless Vista somehow "helpfully" went around checking apps for any needed updates and messed with FF within FFP. Hopefully, you didn't have the drive with FFP connected while you did an upgrade.

Side Note: Years of working with Windows... from Windows 3.1 and then 95 (when I used to do tech support for Windows at a large insurance company) all the way up to beta testing Vista has taught me a few things. Here's one pearl of wisdom that may help you in the future:

Never, ever, *ever* upgrade Windows. Every single version of Windows from 3.1 to Vista has messed up something when installed over an existing Windows install. Always perform a clean install.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

it was a *clean install* I

it was a *clean install* I did say "full install" not upgrade. Anyhow just recreated my profile and settings from scratch not a big deal, but I am not sure why/how this happened. I think I might have done something like copy over my old Data folder into the new FFP 2.0 and it rejected some of it. If there arent any other reports of this happening its probably safe to ignore.
