PortaSoft: I'm taking it down

I am taking down PortaSoft, since I'm probably the only one left with FTP access (besides Steve), and transferring all the apps to my site.
Also, I will be contacting David and asking him to take the account offline and redirect the domain to mine.
Please note: This is not something I want to do, but the site is no longer alive
(Side-note: I was crying while writing this post)
Any comments/suggestions/people-willing-to-help?
On this note, are there any portable app developers out there looking for hosting and/or a permenant home for their apps? If so, contact me at cubegames@gmail.com

Host here

You can host apps here. They just have to use the new PAF format when I get the docs for it up and be hosted on SourceForge.

Rob's moving in.

I noticed

I noticed that Rob was moving in. You see stuff like that on the tracker Blum
I will gladly move in too, if you were offering Wink

Yup

The offer is actually open to all developers, yourself included... I just haven't publicized it yet. The requirements are the expected (open source under an OSI-approved license, supporting the final PAF spec once done, willingness to support your app in the forums and keep it updated, runs clean on all platforms with no reg keys, files, etc left behind). The benefits are the expected (you're listed as the publisher with a link to your personal site same as I am on the other ones, you get to use the PA.com logos n stuff, you get to write the news announcements of major new releases for inclusion in the news feed... some of which will make it to the homepage and be seen by hundreds of thousands of people, the undying love and affection of thousands [ok, I made that up]) as well as some unexpected benefits (I've mentioned these to some folks offline, but can't spread the word yet... it's gonna be pretty cool, though... I just need to get the site to break even money-wise first).

I still need to finalize the PAF spec (with assistance from all) this week. I just want to finish up the current set of bugs and get the sources posted for the last few bits first.

Cool

Sounds great.
Also, how did my RSSOwl Portable go with the PAF-style? There's one part I forgot about which was the file-size in AppInfo. Is that the size of the App\RSSOwl\ directory, the size of the main executable (RSSOwl.exe), the size of the launcher or the size of the whole thing zipped?

Size Installed

That's the size it is when fully installed after a first run/configuration. So, in Firefox Portable's case, for example, it's a 5.7MB download that uncompressed to be about 19MB but winds up as about 25MB after the first run (downloading the antiphishing database and stuff). So, InstallSize=25.

Hmm

So that includes both the Profile directory and the DefaultData directory?
Also, does using Data\.rssowl instead of Data\settings make RSSOwl non-PAF?

Free run of data

You have free run of the data directory. As long as all the data is in there and you can upgrade it with an install over (aka in-place upgrade), you're fine.

Oh,

thank god. Otherwise the profile would have had to have been Data\settings\.rssowl
Thanks again for your help John Smile
