my review about papps

- peerblock is not working from c:/program files, such as libre office

good to know BEFORE installing papps.

- papps is often failing to connect application list from the website (no logic reason)

- file association is not working

- no way to start papps with windows

all theses things were promised by papps, so if there is no update to fix it ill just go back to framakey.

It's Portable Apps, not papps. In some places within your post, you're referring yo thecPortableApps.com Platform.

  • For a long time now, our applications have both been disallowed from installing or running from ProgramFiles. See here for further information on why: https://portableapps.com/node/31820#comment-193047
  • Are there any errors displayed? This would help diagnose the problem.
  • File Association is in the process of being implemented, but isn't there yet.
  • There is a utility available to do this. Note that you'll need to ensure Start.exe is renamed StartPortableApps.exe. See here: https://portableapps.com/node/13770

1. Portable software should not be installed to Program Files as it will fail to work on Windows Vista and later due to UAC. Even excluding UAC, some apps will not run properly in portable mode within Program Files due to the way the apps themselves are designed (Google Chrome, etc).

2. I've never seen it fail to pull the app list as it's on the same server that you're connecting to to post this and this server hasn't gone down in about a year.

3. File associations is an add-on at present. You can use either Portable File Associator or eXpresso in the forums. eXpresso is an updated version of the outdated Cafe (aka C.A.F.E.) minimal file association that intercepts double-clicks (Framakey uses this rather than proper associations). PFA is proper file associations but the utility may be a bit difficult to use. We're working on adding it to the platform proper so it won't require an add-on but this is not complete. Windows 8 integration in particular may not function.

4. You can create a shortcut to StartPortableApps.exe and place it in your Windows' All Programs - Startup folder. The PortableApps.com Platform will then start with Windows.

It's worth nothing that Framakey is abandoned at this point. Most apps in their directory are severely out of date and insecure including Firefox, Thunderbird, FileZilla, Pidgin, etc.

thank you very much for all

thank you very much for all your help

I will try theses solutions and come back if I need.

For new users, webmaster should write everything we have to know on promised features somewhere on the website and link it to the promise themselves.

have a good day
