I can't seem to find any info regarding the drive performance that is needed/suggested for the PortableApps platform. I'm assuming USB stick performance will have an impact on the app(s) performance... yes?
What would be the recommended drive performance to have and is there a recommended USB stick to use (brand/model)?
Thank you!
A simple question with no simple answer. I don't think you need very high performance - apps can work fine on a USB 2.0 port for example - but some drives work well while others don't. At one time I thought it was poor random-write performance that ruined a drive for Portable Apps but I now think it's more complicated than that.
Identifying minimum performance requirements may be nighe impossible. It's probably better to ask what drives work well. I highly recommend the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0. The drives are pretty pricey but their performance for Portable Apps is absolutely stellar, almost like running them from an SSD.
Would depend hugely on the application, since some will be more read/write intensive than others.
Web Browsers for instance if loading/saving sessions and history.
Also the speed of the interface on the system will have an influence, as in usb 2.0 or 3.0.
Get a usb 3.0 drive if you can, as that will be backward compatible and simply go as far as the interface on the computer will allow it to.
If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.
