Diffractor can be used freely for personal or non-profit use. All other users must become a supporter. Some advanced indexing features are disabled for non supporters. Becoming a supporter involves a small fee.

The Diffractor and ImageWalker projects do not collect personal information about users. A small amount of anonymised information is used to check valid supporters and estimate the current number of users. Supporters have a hash of their email address recorded online and can choose to have some settings centralised. Future versions may show advertising to non-supporters although no such plans currently exist.
