Google Chrome Portable won't download and install

I have several times from several computers and locations to no avail at downloading and reinstalling chrome portable. Every time the error I get is "The downloaded copy of Google chrome portable (http://cache.pack.google.com/edgedl/chrome/win/35C31100BE28D70D/35.0.191...) is not valid and can not be installed. this could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete."

Any help would be appreciated as I much prefer to any other browser.

You're Blocked

The file is available and downloading correctly. You'll see that error if you're blocked from downloading. Usually a corporate/university firewall, local antivirus with a false positive, or country block (if you're in Iran, Cuba, etc).

Different Error

That's an entirely different error you're getting at home than you were earlier.

The earlier error indicates that 'something' was downloaded, but it wasn't the file that was expected. At work/school earlier, when the installer downloaded Google Chrome, did it take a while and show you the progress on a file downloading 30MB+ of data and show you the speed it downloaded, or did it return fairly quickly or pause and then show the error, indicating a very small 'this is blocked' html page downloaded in its stead?

As for the error at home, this usually indicates that you don't have Windows' internet components configured properly. Fire up Internet Explorer and be sure it can connect to the internet and download the file directly. If it can't, the installer can't either, since it uses the Windows components.

no clue

it downloaded the usual 1.3 KB file is what it says its downloading when i do a direct download and got the same error off ie but other things download and install just fine.

i also tried doing a direct download at school which came up the same file size as at home but it just said the file is not valid.

at this point all i can think is a hardware issue which doesn't make any sense but the issue only cropped up when i switched to a smaller flash drive which i know has plenty of free room still. i use it for school purposes and have never had any trouble at school in the past. like i said hardware is the only thing i can think so maybe i'll try a different flash drive just to see.

KB?

KB? The downloaded file when you click directly on it is 37.3MB. What do you get when you download it directly?

installer != Google Chrome

The Google Chrome Portable installer that you download is not the Google chrome installer, instead it links to the file on Google's servers.

The installer file is 1.4MB, however the linked google chome installer is 37.3MB

Try downloading this file, which has an MD5 of edac53e2964c7ace868208c3b6c5c8f1

If you're able to download that file, and the MD5 doesn't match, then the file was not fully downloaded, and as result, Google Chrome Portable won't accept it.

However, if the MD5 matches, put that file NEXT TO GoogleChromePortable_35.0.1916.153_online.paf.exe, and it'll be used, rather than the computer trying to download it again.

What I mean is:

X:\Downloads\GoogleChromePortable_35.0.1916.153_online.paf.exe
X:\Downloads\35.0.1916.153_chrome_installer.exe
