I don't want a recycle bin! Grrr...

Windows keeps setting my hard drive to use a recycle bin. This is on one computer, BTW.
I don't know how to set it so that my drive won't use the recycle bin, even if it is a system setting (i.e. will change from comp to comp).
Default system setting is to have drives configured independently and use 10% each. I can change it, but it changes back every time I remount the drive. I have admin privileges and want the C: drive to use a bin.

Any ideas?

NTFS

NTFS Drives have a folder Recycler which you can delete periodically
Fat and Fat32 drives don't have this folder.

windows hard drives are automatically NTFS while most portable drives are FAT32 though some are NTFS

hope this solves you problem

FAT32 uses a recycle bin too

FAT32 uses a recycle bin too (\Recycled\ instead of \RECYCLER\).

I don't want a recycle bin, I want to delete files without using the Shift button or changing RB settings everytime I mount my drive.

It's per PC

It's a setting on each individual PC... it's not a per-drive setting. And if your PC isn't remembering it when you replug, then something is wrong with your PC. Not sure what, but trying searching the net a bit as I doubt anybody here has encountered it.

I figured that. I just want this PC to not revert.
I've never unmounted and remounted without a shutdown in between. I'll try that and post the result.

Reboot vs Remount

I *think* XP remembers removable drive settings between remounts. Not sure about reboots. Curious to see your results.

Well, a reboot isn't what

Well, a reboot isn't what causes it to forget. I unmounted it, mounted it, and checked the settings. The same (e: and g: are set to delete). Unmounted it, and rebooted. Mounted it, and checked the settings. e: and g: are still set to delete. If I find out what causes it to revert, I'll post.

My "removable drive" (1GB Sandisk Cruzer Mini) has always been set to delete. This "local disk" is having the problem. Blum

Maybe it reverts when another device uses that drive letter.

Shift+Delete

That's what I do with my portable HD, I just shift+delete just to make sure it's deleted and not sent to the recycle bin.

well...my school has somehow

well...my school has somehow (and i haven't a clue how) blocked the "Shift+(whatever)" commands from almost all of the computers...

is their a parameter in the autostart file that can force mount it as a removable drive?
(the damn comps (dell) have a goram conniption fit every time i plug my drive in, there like "like...oh my god's! more memory! junk it up!..." when i plug it in and then go all "emo emo *slash wrist**slash wrist*" when i take it out...bloody dell's...pun intended...)

desktop

hold shift and drag on top of the recycling bin. This has the same effect, and may not be blocked by the school login script.
