Customize toolbar

In FFP 2.0 don't need the space taken by the "history" button but it will not drag from the toolbar to the "customize toolbar" window. In fact none of the original buttons will drag off -- file,edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, help & prefs. Only the ones added will drag off such as Adblock Plus and Launchy.

Is there another method to remove the "history" button?

Try Menu Editor

It's and extension for Firefox. Works wonders for hiding unused/unwanted menus and options. Grab it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/710/

Hope it helps.

Installed the extension, but

Installed the extension, but still cannot remove history button from the TB. Opened Menu Editor, 1.2.3, and under options on the right with History as an available menu item, below that it reads "not yet implemented." Dragged it to the left window, Apply, restarted FF, and History remains. again tried dragging it from TB to Customize TB window. Still no go.

Activated history, restarted FFP 2.0, and same occurs. Wonder if this extension only operates to move menu items, not a button?

You need to

Disable the History menu. Don't drag it to the customize box.
Open Menu Editor, select History, untick [] Visible and click OK.

Thanks, but believe I tried

Thanks, but believe I tried that. In the meantime, resolved it by placing this in the userChrome.css:

/* Kill History button in FFP as unneeded */
menu[label="History"] { display: none;}

/* remove GO button in Firefox 2 from location bar (id) */
#go-button-stack {display: none}

Buttons vs Menus

Buttons are those graphical things. Menus are the words File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks. Buttons are customizable via Customize Toolbars. The menu is not (it's a menu, not a toolbar). But the extension mentioned can do it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

There is one

Right click on your toolbar and select "customize" you will see the History button there.
