Uh-OH...What did I do? Need to find a file....

While downloading a file via keepvid.com from break.com I had a pop-up ask me if I wished to install an update and it was supposedly from microsoft. Stupidly I did not research the file name or even write it down before saying it was ok to do it. No after I did it I can't download vids via sites like keepvid.com from sites like break.com

Does XP keep a log of what, when and where updates or downloads go to see if I can pinpoint it? If it went into the firefox files where might it have gone?

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Thanks,
Bryan

Run a spyware scan. Then a virus scan. Repeat until everything works.

If you don't have a spyware scanner, I would recommend Windows Defender, by Microsoft - it integrates well into Windows and provides real time protection.

I like it anyway!

If it is a bit of malware/spyware this should remove it. I doubt you will be able to just delete a file, it will have installed itself most likely.

I ran Ad-aware, Ewido antispyware, Virus Keeper Pro, Avast, WinPatrol, and AVG free edition and came up with nothing but typical tracking cookies.

Well, feel lucky then that the only thing it did was break those sites, and not completly screw you over!

In firefox run about:plugins to see if it installed something into firefox.
