If I use "Telegram Desktop Portable 0.6.7 Dev Test 1" as Portable Version, it ask me always to register me, when I change from one to the other PC.
I use the Portable Version from Telegram https://desktop.telegram.org/ . Just unzip tportable.X.X.X.zip to X:\PortableApps\Telegram. It works well, even changing from one PC to the other. Telegram is providing and installing an Updater.exe.
Just click on the upward flash on the top right corner of the window and it is installing you always the newest version of Telegram Desktop.
Telegram is for me the best Messenger, because you can use it parallel on various devices and operating systems. I registered me on my FirefoxOS Mobile Phone, Android Tablet and Windows-7 Desktop with the same Mobile Phone Number and it shows me on all 3 devices all chats parallely. With WhatsApp (from Facebook) you do not have all this options!
Since version 0.7.4 - 23.12.2014, Telegram is also translated into German
I tired the Dev-Test-1 since version 0.9.14 and it works fine for me now. But to update to newer releases, just after installing, you have to UNCHECK "update automatically" in "Settings - General". Otherwise after Auto-Update it ask you again to register
You have always to look on this page, if there is a newer version, download it and install it over the older version.
Other hint: Change in "Settings - General - Chat options" to "Send by Crtl+Enter", so you can enter a "new line" in to the chat. Just click on Send to send it
It's highly recommended to do a fresh install.
This update to the latest version 0.7.9 fixes the issue Sandrito was reporting. Unfortunately I had to set the working directory myself. Otherwise the settings were stored in the wrong folder and you have to register every time you start Telegram. Sorry for the inconvience.
Be aware that your downloads in Telegram e.g. pictures etc. are not stored portable. I have no influence because I can't set it from the outside.
The auto updater seems to work well and cleans up after an update.
I used it on my PC (Win7 SP1 x64). Works great. Updated automatically to 0.7.10 and it worked. But I didn't use it on Flash Drive. I will check it.
Edit: It working with automatically update. Maybe you can make it Online Installer.
Edit 2: on "App\Telegram\tdata" must be on "Data" directory. on "App\Telegram" data "data" "data_config" "log.txt" must be on "Data" directory.
Edit: It working with automatically update. Maybe you can make it Online Installer. Puzzled
An Online Installer could be an option. But actually only used if you don't have the permission.
Edit 2: on "App\Telegram\tdata" must be on "Data" directory. on "App\Telegram" data "data" "data_config" "log.txt" must be on "Data" directory.
I added moving files to Data after running Telegram. I hope you meant that.
Any thoughts on the Online Installer?
Thank you. I am using your app. I glad for your work.

Update base app
Update base app
I used the WorkingDirectory parameter in the launcher ini
WorkingDirectory=%PAL:DataDir%\tdata
Works great. have you try?
Thanks for the note. That will eliminate the effort to move things back and forth.
