Autoruns Freeware invalid.

Every time I try to update Autoruns, I get a message about Autoruns being invalid. First I tried the updater on the USB drive and got "The downloaded copy of Autoruns Portable (http://download.sysinternals.com/files/autoruns.zip) is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete.", and then I tried the downloaded installer and got "The downloaded copy of Autoruns is not valid and can not be installed. Please try downloading again.". I've tried several times on both ways, and no difference.

I went to the link, and got this message (which wouldn't copy here properly, so I took a screenshot of it):

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Autoruns Freeware invalid.

The problem is that the Autoruns.zip has been updated since the portable app was last updated. A temporary workaround is to download the following file:

http://web.archive.org/web/20150206110425/http://download.sysinternals.c...

MD5 Hash: c22ecb98a43b50a2a236abd1f989913b

an place it in the same folder as the AutorunsPortable_13.1_English_online.paf.exe

The linked Autoruns.zip is exactly the same zip that the installer is expecting.

alternate fix

Hey guys, this is most likely an issue where you're on a domain or some kind of network that redirects your documents and profile personality files to a location that does not give the proper authority to do certain installations. Usually, this is due to the temp location running in your user files "drive"....

Try updating or reinstalling Autoruns portable from a network isolated PC. Once i move my portable apps usb drive to a netbook that i had, all worked as expected...

Odd Reply

It's odd that you registered to make a post to a topic over a year after it was solved. The answer is just above. The publisher had done a stealth update and the online installer needed to be updated to take that into account.
