Amazon login says I need to enable cookies, but they are enabled

Reinstalled Ffox portable 35 form scratch, because it wasn't working properly. Now everything else works but I can't log in to my Amazon account. Says Cookies need to be enabled. But cookies are enabled. Works OK in Chrome, so not an Amazon problem. Running Windows 8. I've tried clearing cookies, clearing cache, clearing history but still can't log in.

Check Here

Check here: https://www.whatismybrowser.com/are-cookies-enabled

Note that on that site you have to have Javascript enabled as well, just like on Amazon and most websites.

Javascript

Thanks for your suggestion. Javascript is enabled in the Ffox config settings.

Check in FF options Privacy

Check in FF options Privacy tab Cookie Exceptions to see if there is an entry for Amazon, if so delete it.

Windows 8.1 issue???

Works perfectly in Windows 7 from same directory, memory stick etc.

Another Ffox related gremlin in Win 8.1 - I tried to install Ffox in 8.1 and got an error about needing admin priviledges (which I had) - installs perfectly in Win7.

Is there some setting in Win 8.1 which is needed to enable Ffox to behave? Other browsers seem to be OK - eg I can log in to Amazon using Chrome portable.

Removable Drive NTFS Issue

If it's on a removable drive and asking for admin rights to install, you likely have a permissions issue on your drive. See this post: https://portableapps.com/node/43393

Not using removable drive

I'm running off my local hard drive - not a removable.

Path and login

What's the full path to the install? Are you using the same windows login you installed with?

Install file path

Install file is D:\Software Install files\Firefox Portable\FirefoxPortable_35.0.1_English.paf.exe

I'm using the only login on the system, so it is always the same.

Install Path

I mean the install path, the path you're trying to install to. Not the installer path.

If you're prompted for admin rights as soon as you try to run that FirefoxPortable_35.0.1_English.paf.exe file, something is wrong with the permissions of the drive you're trying to run it from.

Installer

Sorry, I think I'm causing confusion here. My fault - I've had so many problems with Firefox this past week. The 'Installer' issue refers to the standard, installed version which I was trying to install to see if I had the 'Amazon' problem with it installed. But I can't install it because of the 'permissions' issue. It fails before it gets as far as verifying the path name to install into. It fails immediately after the 'extracting' messages. The same file installs perfectly on Win 7. I have an open issue about this on Bugzilla.

I can 'install' the portable version (which I prefer) in a directory on my PC. I run it off the D drive, a partition on my hard drive. I had several problems last time I did this, but I managed to work around all of them except the 'Amazon' problem.

I still have the problem of not being able to sign in to my Amazon account - says I need to enable cookies, which I have done. Ffox is reporting some Amazon cookies when I check (using Show Cookies in the Privacy tab).

Another problem...

Yesterday my Bookmarks toolbar disappeared, despite the fact that the apropriate box is checked. The only was I could get it back was to enable the menu bar - then it reappeared. This happens every time I close down and restart. I've also had severe problems with my addons recently - I had to reinstall them all from scratch. I don't know if these problems are connected.
I've fixed all these problems by migrating to Chrome I miss some of the Ffox functionality and useability, but Chrome seems to work perfectly.

V36 Portable

Same situation after upgrading to v36- on Win7 I can log in to Amazon OK. On Win8.1 I get the same error about enabling cookies. This is using the same instance of Ffox run off a memory stick.

PC Issue

It sounds like there is something definitely wrong with that specific PC of yours. It could be TEMP permissions, it could be registry issues, it could be a bad software firewall, it could be malware. But it's something specific to that Win8.1 PC. You can likely use that same copy of Firefox on any other PC and it will be fine.
