Textual smilies' errors

The forums' instructions state:

Textual smiley will be replaced with graphical ones.

However:
works. So does - but not
The reason the last smiley doesn't work is because it's the end of the line.
I can trick it to work by using   after it, like this:  

So please make smilies work even if they end lines.

Also, the aforementioned quote should start in plural just like it ends in plural ("ones"):
