If I understand this right the FTP server (FileZilla) in XAMPP needs to install a Windows service to run. This would install in Windows on my PC and not my USB stick.
I hope I'm wrong, can anyone clarify?

XAMPP does install several files on your computer including the windows register.
It installs and then uninstalls the service. So, it is admin only. This is a limitation of FileZilla.
