Uninstall and Install U3

I've just got myself a U3 flash drive. I know it is possible to uninstall U3, is it possible to reinstall it if I decide I prefer it?

Thanks

What brand?

Yes it is possible.

I don't recommend it myself.
The only company I know of that has a Launchpad updater that can actually install the Launchpad (and there fore U3) if it has been removed from one of Their drives is Sandisk. If you have a Sandisk I would recommend just "deactivating" the Launchpad for a while till your sure you have no use for it.

To do this use the Launchpad to turn off Autostart AND Password protection. You will still have the "CD" partition but it will not DO anything untill you double click on it.

So far I think only the latest Sandisks have these features.
The "reinstall" has been known to fail!!! You Have Been Warned !!!

I don't recommend it either.

It is simply because it is slow and drab plus it lacks open source software!

Excuse me !

I meant I don't recommend uninstalling it with the intent of reinstalling.

I like U3 myself.
It does have some open source software, like:

Firefox Portable,
Thunderbird Portable,
OpenOffice Portable,

but you know, Not everything needs to be open source to be good.

Ah, but it takes up more

Ah, but it takes up more space than I wanted to sacrifice on a small stick, and I didn't like its attitude either. Looking for a solution led me here, which was another good thing. I installed the Portable Apps basic on my lil bitty stick after clearing the 512MB one of bloat so that I could pack an iso home on it.

I had already been carrying some portable things - Popcorn, K-meleon, IrfanView - and I wanted to have one clean stick for "cargo" and one for proggies. I'm happy now, and could care less about U3. Too much of the readily available U3 software is payware, and I could barely afford the stick.

They do have some appealing things, like the packager with which one can allegedly make things portable more easily. However, I like doing things the...interesting way. LOL.

U3 Led me here

> I didn't like its attitude either

Not sure what that means?

>Too much of the readily available U3 software is payware, and I could barely afford the stick.

I am more than willing to admit that for you and others cost could be a concern, but sometimes I get the impression at this site that people feel that "payware" is a bad thing. That is just so wrong that I don't know what to say.

Free is Great, opensource is good, that does not mean that the opposites are bad or evil.

It was U3 that led me to Portable Apps. I trusted them. They had a vested interest in treating me well. Through them I found this site, and JH. NOW I trust John. Before the U3 versions of PAs I did not know John from a whole in the head and would not have trusted him. U3 trusted John, so I gave him a chance. Now I trust John, too.

It is too easy to download viruses and spyware nowadays. U3 is a safe source for those who don't know any better, and it leads some people, like me, HERE.

But Tim

Tim when I meant lack I meant very few opensource software. I did not mean not any at all!

There is more out there

There's more to life than open source.
And you can use open source software on U3 because there's more to U3 than the Launchpad.

I use U3, PAS, and PStart. Each does something the others can not.
Enjoy the best of all worlds!

Matera

I tried that myself and it only does the .exe file not all the other necessary files, so far the only thing that makes instant portable software that works well is Ceedos's InstallAnyThing, it works well I tried Ceedo myself and InstallAnything but it does not work with everything though.
