When attempting to run Sunbird under wine on ubuntu 6.06 I receive the following error message in a window entitled:
Microsoft visual c++ runtime library
runtime error
then a reference to the path to Sunbird
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
The other portable apps from the portable apps suite run well under wine.[I'm composing this while viewing the forum using firefox portable].
Thanks in advance for any assistance
It should work as I test under Ubuntu 6.06 with Wine. Be sure you've updated to the latest release of Wine (0.9.29) and are running Sunbird Portable 0.3 (the help.html will tell you). I just verified it from a fresh install and it worked correctly.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
As soon as I updated my repositories to fetch from winehq, everything worked. Is there a way to change to a different, more legible font for all the apps? The default on my system invites eyestrain?
Thanks in advance,

If you install the Windows Fonts (Tahoma, Verdana, etc) it should work. I don't know how to do that under Ubuntu, though. When a Wine app can't find the appropriate font (and it can't w/o the Windows fonts installed) it uses your system default, I think. There might be a Wine setting for the default, but you'd have to check with the Wine site. If you find the answer for either or both, please let us know.
