\common\

Someone (I think John) had the idea of placing common files (like GTK) in their own directory instead of having multiple copies for each app. What happened to that idea?

Also, what apps share what?

CommonFiles

It's called CommonFiles. I detailed it in the latest Gaim pre-release.

Oh. I don't use Gaim. So I

Oh. I don't use Gaim. Blum

So I guess only Gaim and The GIMP have files in common then. Or did I miss something?

Vintage!

Starting with GTK

It's starting with GTK as that's used by Gaim and GIMP and was a natural first choice (especially now that you can use the latest GTK with Gaim). So GTK would be at PortableApps\CommonFiles\GTK in a standard setup. I've got a few more things that will be added, some of which involve some licensing chats so I can't discuss them yet... but they will be handy Smile

And, of course, you can still adjust the path to GTK manually using the INIs. Several people have been sharing GTK between Gaim and GIMP for a while now.

A few info about those INIs, pls

Would you be so kind as to give some info on which (and how) INIs are to be modified if puting GTK in \commonfiles\ ?

So far, I move my GTK subdirectory from under the \portablepidgin\apps directory to under the \commonfiles directory and Pidgin seems to work OK though I didn't change anything in any ini file. I read somewhere that the app is looking for GTK into that \common directory if it doesn't find it under its own directory, but what if I want my GTK to be in a specific directory somewhere else ?

I'm not knowledgeable enough to understand the discussion in https://portableapps.com/node/6996 (which somehow appears to be some answer to my question).

Dom

PS : Merci beaucoup (I'm French) for that "portage" of great apps

Two Locations

You can use it in two locations. Either the included GTK location within the GaimPortable (etc) directory or PortableApps\CommonFiles\GTK. If you're not technical enough to follow the other discussion, just leave it alone.

Which INIs are we talking about here ?

Thks for the answer.

I still would like to know the meaning of "And, of course, you can still adjust the path to GTK manually using the INIs. "

I understand we are speaking of the App's ini files, e.g X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\Data\settings\PidginPortableSettings.ini
where we should add a line that would say "GTK path is xyz".

What I'd appreciate to know is what should exactly read that "GTK path is xyz" line.

No INIs

You can no longer adjust the path to GTK with the INI. This was removed months ago.
