Library computer messed up my drive

Let me explain what's going on. When I plug my USB hard drive into a library computer, it allows me full read and write permissions, but only until I unplug it. After I unplug, I can't modify or delete the files and/or folders. All the computers in the library run Windows XP Professional. I think the problem has something to do with read write permissions between all the computers in the library, because all the file and folder names on the drive have a blue font color instead of the usual black. I can't fix the problem because you can't alter the properties of files and folders on a library computer (must have administrative rights). Is there a portable file manager that allows anyone to alter the properties of files and folders without being logged on as an administrator?

SetOwner

I'm assuming that your drive is formated as NTFS or EXT3, otherwise you wouldn't be having this problem. Read and Write Permission can be set to stay with the file when it is copied from one drive to another or another folder. The only way to fix this is to log on as Administrator on another PC or as the same user on the library PC. You can use a Command line program called SetOwner, but again you need Admin or "Restore files and directories" permission to get this hack to work.

Do a Google for SetOwner, you should be able to find a copy on the 'security' network. Don't try it on the Library computer!

Did you know that the entire operating system use to fit on a 5 1/4" floppy disk!
