Just wanted to post a quick note about a recent upgrade. As the techies here know, PortableApps.com uses the Drupal content management system to handle the site, forums and pretty much everything else. I've been working the past week and a half to test the various modules, update the custom PortableApps.com theme and test the overall system to ensure that the upgrade would go smoothly.
At 12:15am New York time, I took the site offline and upgraded Drupal from 4.7.6 to 5.0. And then from 5.0 to 5.1. All modules (casetracker, views, smileys, simplenews, etc) were also upgraded to the latest releases. The entire upgrade process took approximately 1 hour.
Everything I've tested seems to be working as expected. There are a couple of minor issues I'm still working through (The smileys and some bullets don't show up in IE6 at the moment... it's a conflict with the PNG transparency hack used... isn't IE annoying?). I'd appreciate a heads-up if there's anything else that people notice.
The system is now using the new agressive caching method introduced with Drupal 5 along with the CSS combination and compression system. That's a fancy way of saying that it should improve performance a bit and buy us some time before we need to go multi-server.
Oh, and for those that love the tracker... Recent Posts is now a link in the left-hand navigation when you're logged in.
Thanks for your patience and support.

John

What about the newsletter...;-)
OOOPS...Sorry...Bad joke...I know you`re putting in very much of your time already.
And the RSS works well enough for me.
Thanks
EDIT:
At first I didn't notice, but it really IS faster now.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
so much smoother and faster!
Glad it went all good for you
