Operation from CD

Is it possible to run a portable app - specifically OOo - from a CD and use RAM or a temporary directory for transient data (which, of course, will be lost on closing the app)?

I am thinking in terms of a demonstration disk...

Yes, but

you will need to copy the apps and data settings to said RAM disk before running the launchers.

So-called 'Live' versions exist. Portable Firefox Live works with a batch file for Windows 2000/XP. I'm working on a new launcher in NSIS that will handle it as well.

I can't use from CDR

Hello, I burn OpenOffice.Org in CDR.
It's starter, but when I click in any menu than OOo close.
I would like burn OOo in CDR with my articles to send to my teachers, because all use MS Office and I use OOo/Linux, so I can't write my articles in MS Office and my teachers don't install OOo!
Thanks,

It can't

NONE of the portable apps work from a CD unmodified as they all require write access to their settings. There is a live version of Portable Firefox. I'm doing a version of OO.o live with the next update.

Thanks

OK Mr. Haller!
You know when OOo LIVE is available?
Is fantastic if OOo run from CD, because we can burn a CD with OOo and send to ours teachers.
Thanks,
Renato

Soonish

I'm trying not to give totally firm timelines now. I'm still doing the portable apps in my "spare time".

And, please, it's John Smile

That'd be great, because I'm

That'd be great, because I'm trying to ship a cd-based app (no installation) that edits a Word document and converts it to PDF. OO.o will do this, so I could automate it from scripts to do what I wanted. Chalk up another vote for a CD-based OO.o Smile

No

but really simple to make.
If I had enough download quota, I could make it in two secs, but I can't at the moment.

I don't have one

Wait for the next release and it will have the Live option in it.
