Old Versions

You can grab old versions of Thunderbird Portable here including 31.7.0. Note that old versions have security risks.

I'm unaware of any specific issues in 38.0.1. I checked their bug database searching for chinese thunderbird and didn't find anything recent that looks relevant, so it may be a new bug. I'd suggest reporting them to Mozilla directly especially if you can provide a screenshot of the issue. You can use their bugzilla system here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

Thanks

Thanks for reporting the bug. It looks like yours was reported as a duplicate of another, so you should follow this bug here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174580

It looks like it was introduced in TB38. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. I'd wager they don't have enough users testing with Simplified Chinese so if you can assist once in a while or know others who can, you can run the betas and help the Thunderbird devs out.
