I run most of my apps portable, but I don't have the Portable Apps Platform running. I find that many of the apps are slow to launch, particularly VLC, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, Skype - probably most of them. I launch them from my local hard drive. My PC does not seem to be short of resources. I'm on Windows 10 but it was the same on 7 and 8.1. Would installing the Platform speed up the launch times?

If you're running it on your hard drive and it seems slow, this is generally due to using one of the consumer antivirus apps that has issues with compressed EXE/DLL files. We've tweaked our apps like VLC to use less compression (and have a bigger install size) to compensate for the worst offenders. Note that this won't affect most of our apps, including Skype, which are completely unaltered.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
