hello,
I'm downloading right now the entire content of my Gmail account in my thunderbird portable through IMAP.
My gmail is 15GB and 41470 messages. Now I've downloaded almost 3636 message, which means 91% of the entire messages, however the size of my Thunderbird folder is only 2.44% ... how is this possible? I was expecting the same size of my actual Gmail account, is there any sort of compression?
My main goal is that I'd be able to manage my mailbox offline completely, so if I want to search and query for old messages I could do it offline, but this size difference makes me suspicious.
Any input is welcome, thank you!
There is an option to compress the email. Also you state the mail is only 2,44%
% of what?

Hi, thanks for your reply.
No, I wrote that my gmail account in gmail webmail is 15GB. Now, I've downloaded all the messages in my thunderbird portable but the size of my gmail in thunderbird is only 3.50GB ... is it really possible that it was compressed that much? It seems impossible to me... what makes me doubt that there are not all the messages is this:
I searched for a specific word in my thunderbird gmail (word= "boccio") which i know there are plenty of entries, but it only found 17 entries, from many years ago up to 2014.
I did the same search in my gmail webmail and the same word was found in 186 messages , with the last message being from last may.... while the last message with this word in thunderbird was from 2014, so I guess i can say that not all the messages on my actual webmail are stored in thunderbird portable...
How can I make sure to download ALL the messages in my thunderbird?
many thanks!
Alex
