I see jportable...but the references in the forums seem to be 3-5 years old. Is there a portable javaws for running .jnlp files?

jPortable is actively updated. It is a plugin designed for use with LibreOffice, OpenOffice, and several test apps. We don't design for or test around jnlp files as there hasn't been much interest and we don't yet officially support Java apps as portable apps.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
