Running portable Firefox 42 and portable Firefox ESR 38.4 at the same time

I've noticed numerous threads concerning issues running your native C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox at the same time as the PortableApps version, but how about these two different versions running off your USB at the same time?

Will that also leave bits behind, even though I'd never open the native version off my HD at the same time?

Single Instance

Firefox itself is designed to only have a single instance running at a time. Regardless of portable vs local. You can set both standard and esr versions of Firefox Portable to AllowMultipleInstances but note that some files will be left behind and you won't be able to associate files with the launcher.

So are you saying it

So are you saying it automatically writes files to my C:\ HD regardless, even though BOTH instances are running of my USB?

Always

Firefox always writes files and registry keys to the local machine. They haven't included any personal information to this point, The FirefoxPortable.exe launcher cleans them up on exit.

I've been running into the same instance error while running Iron Portable and Chrome Portable at the same time off the USB. Is that also the case?

Same

Iron and chrome are the same browser inside and can't run at the same time either.

I used to be able to do it,

I used to be able to do it, probably over a year ago. But then it suddenly was blocked. Why?

Iron Changes

Iron used to be more distinct and a separate iron.exe process. Earlier this year, they switched it to chrome.exe, so it's treated as the same browser.

Any clue as to why they did

Any clue as to why they did that?

Seems to me there's no point to using Iron if they're doing that.

I run portable 34.05 on USB

I run portable 34.05 on USB and a portable installation on the C: drive which I update regularly. They certainly run as if the same if you invoke one then the other. I have a problemo with the one on the C: drive when trying to debug JavaScript. My script has a timer and a FF quirk renders debugging impossible. Hence the old version on USB. I will ask on another thread.
