Thank You: Why I use PortableApps

There are many ways to show thanks. Donations are always helpful.

Letting people know why we use the tools that they spend so much time and energy developing can be an additional way to show thanks.

I was thinking about why I use PortableApps.

The answer: It makes my life better.

Normally, I am very reluctant to install any software. I've always joked that only a computer without software runs well. Every time you install non-portable software, that software takes liberties with your computer by changing a bunch of things. When you uninstall that software, many of those changes are not reverted. PortableApps takes care of this for you.

If you do install software outside of PortableApps, you have to constantly keep the version updated. I don't allow most applications to have internet access, so auto-updaters are not an option. To keep things updated, one must frequently check websites of software authors for every piece of non-portable software. You then have to download any new versions. Next, you need to determine if it is better to uninstall the old version before installing the new version, or if it is better to install the new version on top. Finally, you need to perform the actual upgrade. Again, PortableApps takes care of all this for you.
