After a recent hard drive failure, and my own failure to make regular daily backups, I'm looking for a good, reliable program which can one-way sync one hdd to another. I used to use SyncBackFree, and it served the purpose well, but it has one major problem for me. Let's say we have a hard drive with folders a, b, c, d and e on them (large folders, with many subdirectories), and I rename folder b to something else. SyncBackFree won't simply rename that folder; it will replace the entire thing. Obviously with large amounts of content that is a problem. In the past I looked at CreateSynchronicity, but it seems to have the same flaw. In PA there are Synkron, FreeFileSync, DSynchronize and Toucan ... do any of these solve the issue? DirSyncPro? What do you suggest?
As a sidenote, I have also read that some file managers and file copiers are actually quite good at syncing directories. So that might be an option too.
You might want to try AllwaySync; free for personal use; I am not sure whether it handles the rename but its very fast;
If you have found something pls do let know as I would be interested
I find FreeFileSync to be the best.
Download the version here and enjoy.
