REQ: Grabit newsreader

Grabit (http://www.shemes.com) is a freeware newsreader aimed at binary downloads. However it appears to store its settings (including NNTP username and password) in the registry. It uses INNO setup but can be extracted and run as a no-install executable - would someone have the inclination to configure a registry wrapper for this? Thanks.

Funny, I don't see him ask about RSS at all. Go figure.

Well, you are right and

Well, you are right and wrong, go figure.... We have news, they are posted as feeds (like RSS) and there is news as from the newsgroups. For the second you need a newsaccount (like news.provider.nl) and is located on the usenet (for instance microsoft.public.office.beta). Grabbit is a program for the second newstype and you given a program for the first.

The difference is:
-Newsfeeds-RSS-Feedreader
-News-Usenet-News artical fetcher

Greatings,
Eddie.

you guys need to stop

you guys need to stop assuming he just wants a newsgroup reader to READ text files. Grabit and newsleecher are the most popular newsgroup readers that support .nzb files. If anyone can portable-lize any of these programs it would be great. Grabit would be easier since newsleecher stores license info in the registry.

"Funny, I don't see"...

...the original poster having logged back on here to TELL us what he wants, as it relates to what these other 2 folk are *debating* about.

How 'bout it, schuster?... A lil' clarification might simmer these 2 down just a tad...

Grabit newsreader

You can do a couple of things, one just download & use Power-Grab 2002 V2.5 it’s portable & almost the same as Grabbit in look & feel. Or Download Grabit, install it, then just zip up the “c:\Program Files\Grabit\” Dir & you have a portable Grabit. Grabit don’t need it’s registry entries to run, I have Grabbit on 3 computers & there all running this self made portable version of Grabit.
