It leaves behind a SkypeSetup.exe in AppData/Local/Temp. Last time I checked and deleted the file. Then did an update no setup.exe. Now it is there again. Maybe Skype downloads an installer automatically because if there is an update available it asks you to update. I always click "not now". The bad thing you can't even suppress Skype to check for updates. Any ideas?

Be sure to keep Skype Portable updated via the platform daily before running it. We nearly always have the updated version posted long before Skype starts pushing it out via automatic update.
You can disable the update check, but only with admin rights on a given machine. There is no setting within the app itself to disable it.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
