Thunderbird Enables Quick Filter Toolbar and Message Preview When Starting

Thunderbird v45.1.1
Windows 10 Pro

Hi:

Recently Thunderbird v45.1.1 began showing the quick filter toolbar and the message preview pane on the first start after windows is started.

I would uncheck to show quick filter toolbar option and also uncheck to show message preview, then exited thunderbird. Without restarting windows 10, I would start thunderbird again and thunderbird would keep the settings for not showing the quick filter toolbar and message preview pane.

But, when I restarted windows 10 and then started thunderbird, once again thunderbird did not keep the settings and would show the quick filter toolbar and message preview pane.

I thought this might be a preference file issue, so I completely reinstalled a fresh copy of thunderbird and reinstalled all extensions and settings. But once again thunderbird would not keep the setting for not showing the quick filter toolbar and message preview pane. It did not matter if I started thunderbird from a shortcut or directly on the .exe or from the portable apps platform menu.

I uninstalled the most recent add-ons and more. But still thunderbird would not keep the settings for not showing the quick filter toolbar and message preview pane.

Then I realized that the issue only occurred when I ran thunderbird portable app from within the default location in the portable apps directory (where the other portable apps are also installed.)

When I copied the "ThunderbirdPortable" folder to outside the portable apps directory and also copied it to another drive, both of these locations thunderbird would keep the settings, after restarting windows 10, for not showing quick filter toolbar and message preview pane.

So, the issue seems to be when thunderbird portable app is run from within the default location in the portable apps folder, where the other portable apps are also located.

This has not been a problem until the last few days.

I would like to keep thunderbird in the same directory as the other portable apps, but do not know why it does not keep the setting to not show quick filter toolbar and message preview pane.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
