I am currently using the NoScript extension to block scripts at PA.com from google-analytics.com and googlesyndication.com.
The reason, I hate all things google.
What do these scripts do?
Am I "hurting" PA.com but not allowing them to run?
Does PA.com make some money or get some useful information by allowing them to run? If so I will allow them to run. If not I will continue to block them.
Note, I do not consider them in any way to be dangerous, but they are google, and for me that's normally reason enough.
Tim
Nearly all script blocking worries in Firefox are complete and utter overkill. There are currently no known scripts that will cause Firefox to do anything bad. (Personally, I always snicker a bit when someone says they block javascript thinking they're making their online experience safer if they're using a browser like Firefox. When there are exploits in Firefox that can do bad things to your PC, they're almost never script related.)
All that said, it's used to display the Google ads on the lower-lefthand side of the page and for Google analytcis to analyze site traffic. These ads are how this site pays its $12,000/year hosting bills. That and donations. Without the ads, the site may not be here for you to enjoy right now.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for the information John.
As I stated above I did not do it for protection. I usually block site ads via NoScript, I also block Ad images.
As it makes money for PA.com and I assume you get information from the analyzing of site traffic I will allow them.
All the best,
Tim
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Good thing this post was just a few days ago. It's funny. Cause I've been on this site every day for the past month and a half, and I have NEVER seen that ad until now, because the colours customly match the site, so I thought I'd look for a post about that ads. And I just wanted to say, thanks for getting a nice small ads box in the bottom corner that matches the site, instad of some huge banner with Adware at the top. Thanks John. And I wouldn't mind more ads down that side of that page either if it will help support the site.:)
I followed an Ad "source" [You know, "let us put this on your site to make money, etc"] and got the impression that if we actually click on the ads PA.com might make even more money. I've clicked on a few so far [usually I NEVER click on ads]. John, does it help PA more if we click on them?

AdSense pays either per-click or per-thousand-impressions. I'm assuming that John is using per-thousand-impressions.

With posting things like that anywhere on this site. As well as repeat clicking often. A year or so ago a nice little site that went down the drain called portasoft.org, google did its part to kill it based on excessive clicks that happened.
Me and my business partner recieved email notification that the Ads account had been cancelled due to click fraud and advising users to click on the ads. Apparently it is a breach of the ToS to post on the site advising people to click or even suggest that.

Great things come to pass when something is needed not simply wanted.
Who said anything about fraud.
I will amend my post to say visit if that clarifies the meaning.
Obviously, to me at least, I will only visit the sites that look like they would be of interest to me. At that point it is up to the site visited to provide me with the incentive to purchase their product. They are doing PA.com a service by providing a source of income, I appreciate that and am willing to see what they have to offer. The ads I have visited [4 so far] looked interesting and were appropriate to this site and my needs.
Fraud never even occurred to me.
[off topic side note. In typing this post the FFP spell checker has stopped me 8 times. I LOVE THIS THING! I can't spell or type for my life and usually have to copy a long post into an email program to check spelling and then paste it back. This thing is great! Thank you John for pushing me to FF2 ]

I think what was being referred to is the fact that Google takes a hard line stance against sites that encourage their users to click ads, something that I would not do. They also take a tough stance on click fraud which is why, even when I see an ad I like on here, I can't click on it since my IP is associated with logging in to the admin side of AdSense for this site. (I've actually manually typed in a couple URLs for stuff I saw advertised, though.)
And yeah, FF 2.0's spell check has definitely improved my spelling in online forum stuff.

You can click on it, just don't do it too much.
Anyway, I thought we only posted about it in the moderator section of the forums anyway...
But it hasn't improved your (X)HTML
It hasn't really improved mine, but I was always good at spelling

Hopefully your having better luck with Google then I did. Only took me 4 phone calls, and a cancellation to get anything from them. I'm having better luck with ADster service. With as many hits as you get, you may do better with them.
