FF pops up occasionally and wants me to download the "new" 1.5 version of the software. I am at 2.0.0.2. Can I prevent that pop up window from occurring?

That's quite strange. You should make a thread at the mozillazine forums or something. 1.5.x is supposed to show updates for 1.5, and 2.0.x for 2.0.
Are you sure you're using 2.0.0.2?

Reinstall Firefox Portable 2.0.0.2 right over your existing install. It won't mess with your data (it's like an in-place upgrade) and that should fix any files that may be messed up and causing Firefox to think it isn't updated. Drop a note back if it works.
