Launcher not working

Portable Apps is working fine from my external hard drive, but will no longer work when run from my computer's hard drive (it has hitherto worked fine for years). The apps will run if I go through the folders to find their exe's, and the user interface starts, but just does not function properly. It will not start any apps and it will not check for updates or let me get more apps (options works, though, as does refresh icons). I have tried replacing the PortableApps.com folder with the one that just a minute ago worked fine on my external disk, but this does not work when run from the C: drive.

Very weird, and very annoying. I use Portable Apps for everything, and not having it work directly from my computer's hard drive is very annoying.

I thought I may as well try a System Restore, but Windows 10 keeps removing the restore points that I make without my actually doing it myself.

If you have not upgraded to Windows 10, DO NOT DO IT. You are better off staying with Windows 7 or 8.

Permissions

In all likelihood, it's a permissions issue. Especially if it was created by one user and then used by another after an OS upgrade. Right click on the PortableApps folder and select Properties and then Security. Ensure your current user has Full control. Same for the Start.exe file and Documents folder. You may want to click Advanced and check the Owner as well.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks

I didn't think to check the Security. I had hoped that a simple reboot would fix this, but it didn't. So I installed the programme and all my apps to a new directory by copying everything from my backup external drive. Oddly, halfway through, I discovered that the updater was still running somewhere on the processor, even though I was not running Portable Apps (discovered it with Task Manager and shut it down), and even though I had rebooted. Oh well. My new installation seems to be working fine.
