ok this is great. Are the shortcuts absolute paths? how can you see more icons of running programs in the system tray?

Thanks!

Tray

I'm not sure how to see more apps in the tray. All of my apps show up. All the icons will keep there paths no matter what the flash drive drive letter is. You can change the Bar and Tray with a different plug in if you like. Hope this answered your questions.

fun

ok, I've been having fun with the new shell. only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get the batch file to close automatically.
the old exit command doesn't work, nor does the windows 95-98 shortcut close when finished.

As for the tray question. The programs show up it is the windows programs that do not like volume or wireless etc... Is there a way to get these?

Batch not closing

You can use a program called "Bat To Exe Converter" to make it a exe so you dont see it execute. Its free and easy to use. "Make sure to check the box ghost application"Click here to download it.
As for getting Microsoft apps to appear in the tray I dont really have any idea. But I will look into it and see what I can do.

bat 2 exe

I tried that program but my AVG thought it was a virus, and won't run it.

now if only the wireless and volume would show up I'd be all set. I've also tried the various plug ins with no luck.

Is this

the Blackbox window manager for Linux/Unix or other UNIX-based operating systems or is this something else? If so can you use Blackbox themes with it, as I am very interested in a portable window manager like Blackbox.

Themes/Styles

This is BlackBox for windows or BB4WIN for short. You can use pretty much any theme/styles you would like with this setup. You can change BlackBox Styles
by editing the "\bb4win\Blackbox\BlackBox.rc"

Default install size?

After we follow your directions, what is the install size going to be? My two thumbdrives are packed and I'd need to create some space to try this out.

Project size

It will be about 11MB just for Blackbox. If you use the portable apps suite lite. It will be about a 40MB install total. You can remove any apps you don't need.

batch

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
blackbox\blackbox.exe
pstart.exe

here is my batch file, it kills explorer.exe so that the windows icons will appear in blackbox, then runs pstart. I also just renamed the background I wanted over the one that came with it.

I still haven't figured out the whole plug ins thing, but now that I get my windows icons I'm happy.

hide the batch file

http://renegadetech.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-convert-bat-file-or-vbs-...

did have to change the batch file a little as it will be run in a different folder, so I had to add paths to it, but it hides it.

killing explorer shell

Thats great. I also will be changing the way the background is change. A friend of mine recompiled bsetroot to set the background picture from a %temp% instead of the windows dir. This will help with users who don't have admin rights. as in the office and so on. I left out killing explorer. Because some users may not know how to restart explorer if blackBox crashes. In the future I plan to implement a fail safe if blackbox does crash to restart explorer. Maybe a plugin or something along those lines.

Version BB4WIN

Regular blackbox is what I have setup. I wanted to start with the first release to understand how it works. Before doing anything with the newer modded versions.

Portable blackbox background

I would like to make a new background for portable blackbox. But i'm not very good at the whole art thing. If someone would like to take a stab at it that would be great.
At some point I plan on making a install package, after a few things are changed and deemed stable.

Wait

This thing is broken and has bugs (I just tried it). It needs some upgrades. Notice the blog hasn't been updated since mid-2007.

self.path = path if self.path == None else self.path
