Errors Downloading Apps via Platform "Unable to download file"

I'm getting the following error on application updates in a machine with XP SP3
Unable to download the file. This could be due to a proxy or network issue or the hosting server not permitting downloads from your location. File:http://dowloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/kritaportable_3.1.2.1.paf.exe
and it goes on with the next apps.

What should I do to fix it.
Reinstalled IE8, no improvements doing so.

Try again, try different mirror

I'd suggest trying again, possibly after setting a different mirror on sourceforge - possibly the one you're accessing doesn't have the file cached properly. Which mirror are you currently using?

I'm not sure what you mean as the "launcher/PA Plataform" doesn't seem to have a setting to switch mirror (at least in the interface>Options). I can download applications from the browser... but is too much work to update all the apps.

Different Error

This platform update was for a specific error ("Redirect Error (403)") caused by setting an obscure Windows setting in Advanced Internet Options. It's unrelated to what I see above.

Can you download the affected file from Internet Explorer on the machine you are having trouble with? Both IE and the Platform (and lots of other apps) use the Windows internet components to handle the connection. If they are broken, none of those should work.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Error?

Are you getting any kind of error? Do you use a proxy of any sort? Was it a normal or modified install (something to remove some Windows components for instance)? Have you applied all available Windows patches? In particular, the patches that allow Windows XP to handle SHA2 security certificates.

Are you getting any kind of error?

It says (translated): Internet Explorer can't display the web page.

Do you use a proxy of any sort?

Sometimes temporally in Firefox (HTTP Proxies) but not in IE.

Was it a normal or modified install (something to remove some Windows components for instance)?

Normal but maybe in the past I removed some (should check it).

I use WSUS to install updates, I had the impression they were, last installed updates were installed on 2015-10. But maybe if I uninstalled IE those patches are missing (I don't remember if IE updates are listed as such (like office updates) or just as generics KB***. I can run WSUS to check for missing updates...

Uninstalled IE?

If you "uninstall IE" using a third party tool, it generally breaks Windows' internet components which the PA.c Updater/App Store as well as the PA.c online installers rely on.

Working on XP SP3 with IE7 and with IE8

I fired up my clean Windows XP virtual machine. This is running a fully patched Windows XP install with no optional updates applied other than an upgrade to IE7 (can't recall if that was a standard or optional update). I was able to download the current release of Firefox Portable without issue. I chose this because it's hosted on SourceForge.

I then upgraded it to IE8, rebooted, applied the security patch, rebooted. I was again able to download the current release of Firefox Portable within the platform without issue.

So, we know that Windows XP SP3 fully patched with either IE7 or IE8 is still working with the platform and with SourceForge even with the transition to SHA2 SSL.

For those affected, please try to download Firefox in Internet Explorer via this link: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/FirefoxPortable_52.0_Engli...

If it fails, you won't be able to download via the platform. Something is wrong with Windows' internet configuration or something is broken in Windows' internet components. If a few people could post the exact error they get in IE, maybe we can track down the cause.

Alex 256 above said: It says (translated): Internet Explorer can't display the web page.

Could you please post the exact error in the original language?

I apologize for the late reply, I have yet to run wsus, I will get into it the next days... and post if there's any improvement.

Could you please post the exact error in the original language?

Sure, I'm afraid it doesn't say much, here it is in spanish:
"Internet Explorer no puede mostrar la página web"

Separate Issue, Corporate Network?

The issue you're replying to is from a year ago and long since worked on.

If you're having an issue now, we'd need more information. If you could please create a new topic in this forum with a link to the screenshot error, full platform install path, platform version, whether a previous version worked or not, whether you're on a corporate/university network that may be using a firewall, etc.
