Permanent TEMP installation

Hello,

Our company distributes interactive CDs with a web-based navigation.
We checked out Firefox Portabel a couple of month ago and tested its features. Especially we liked the fact that we could give our clients a 100% compatible browser that would display our content optimally that would not require additional installation by the user or the existence of another browsing software.

The version we tested copied and LEFT the browser in der TEMP folder in Windows. On our last-check, the version was removed every time, so the whole thing loades slower.

Basically we would like to use a version that leaves a permanent TEMP "installation" comercially along with our CD sales.

Does anybody have a possibility to solve our "problem"?
Is there possibly an additional feature which offers a permanent TEMP "installation"?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards
Giovanni

I'm Confused

You want to install a permanent temporarily application?
What exactly do you need? Just a browser on your CD/DVD that opens pages on the CD?

Regards..

Nope

You wouldn't want to leave it in there anyway, it's just wasting space.
If you really want it, I can build a custom version for you which will include that feature.

hi,

thanks for your quick reply and the offer to support us.

Could you please describe how to build such a custom version for us which will include the requested feature.

Our idea is to create a version which runs as follows:

On the first time you insert the CD "FirefoxPortable" will be copied in the TEMP folder.
By closing the Firefox application the data will have to be remained in the TEMP folder.
Inserting the CD again, first of all the programm will have to check if the data are still in the folder.

In this case the data have not to be copied and the Firefox application will start automatically from the harddrive.

This kind of feature would enable us to shorten the loading time to start the Firefox application.

Possibly do you have any alternative ideas to meet this special request?

For further information please contact me on the following email adress:

Thanks in advance,
Giovanni

You can't

Keep in mind that it is illegal to distribute Firefox with a launcher other than the official one or to distribute a launcher with Firefox's name or branding without permission from Mozilla.

I was planning to send just the unbranded launcher.

Who you're sending it to

I mean for who you're sending it to. He can't do it either. So there's not much point in making a launcher for him that he's not allowed to use the way he'd like to. And we don't want any developers here helping people violate Mozilla's trademark license guidelines.

Oh well

There goes that idea Sad

Still, it's not much extra time that it uses deleting it.

Hi,

Do you know any legal way of doing to develop an additional feature that will enable us to shorten the time of loading of the firefox application as well as to create a permanetn installation of the firefoxPortable in the TEMP folder as described in the recent comments?

It is sure that we are looking for a legal way to find a solution for our request. We have not intended to violate Mozilla`s trademark license guidlines.

Do you possibly have an idea?

Thanks in advance
Giovanni

@ Giovanni

Did you see this here?
It only copies the whole thing to a temp location when its run from a read-only medium like a CD.
But If you add the special ini from above mentioned link then it will run from cd without copying itself to the temp folder. Its just that all history changes and stuff are not being saved (because its read-only ;-))

Hi,

thanks for your quick reply.

Still one question - does the file "OpenOfficePortable.ini" also run with FirefoxPortable? If yes - which options do I have to acitivate/disactivate?

Thanks in advance for your support?

Nope

You use FirefoxPortable.ini from Other\FirefoxPortableSource in the same way.
