I saw that thread, but it's beta testing and over a year old, so i was wondering if the development is dead and if the software is worth using.

You'd have to ask in the thread. Development tests are generally unofficial and managed by a single dev. I've never used that particular test app. The dev is more likely to see it there especially if they have subscribed to that thread for email notifications.

As mentioned, visit the page linked and request an update. That app is being submitted by the publisher, and if you visit the publisher's site, they include a current portableapps-compliant package.
