Opera Portable VPN only works in a Virtual Machine!

Opera Portable VPN only works in a Virtual Machine!

For some reason the built-in VPN in Opera won't work on my Windows 7 PC. It will only work when I run it inside a Virtual Machine in VirtualBox. Does anybody know why that is or how to fix it?
