CoLinux is a way to run linux inside (!) windows.
No emulation such as vmware!
Therefore linux and all linux applications will run with fullspeed and without lag!
Some links....
- http://www.colinux.org/ (I guess it`s the basic project. Imho you need to be a little geek to get it running.
- http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/AndLinux (promising but still to complicated)
- http://sourceforge.net/projects/colonist/ (Aim`s to be run out of the box, I did not get it to work.)
- http://www.topologilinux.com/ (Most easy installer, I got it working including online connection.)
AndLinux and specialy topologilinux are "almost" portable and "almost" easy enugh to be runned from "normal" users. In case of AndLinux you just need to run an install.bat to install and an uninstall.bat to uninstall. But however, you will need admin right to install the driver.
Imho it`s worth to make topologilinux truly portable. Linux could be preinstalled. This would open a lot more potentialities for world of portable apps.
klik (http://klik.atekon.de/ - It`s a english website.) is a website with a massive amount of portable applications desinged for linux. Most of them are open source. If we could run linux inside windows the windows users could profit from their big portable app database aswell too.
On that way we could be able to use some great programms which are availible for linux only, like xmms - a great open source winamp alternative.
