Portable Linux Kernel inside Windows _without_ emulation (complicated and interesting imho)

CoLinux is a way to run linux inside (!) windows.
No emulation such as vmware!
Therefore linux and all linux applications will run with fullspeed and without lag!

Some links....
- http://www.colinux.org/ (I guess it`s the basic project. Imho you need to be a little geek to get it running.
- http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/AndLinux (promising but still to complicated)
- http://sourceforge.net/projects/colonist/ (Aim`s to be run out of the box, I did not get it to work.)
- http://www.topologilinux.com/ (Most easy installer, I got it working including online connection.)

AndLinux and specialy topologilinux are "almost" portable and "almost" easy enugh to be runned from "normal" users. In case of AndLinux you just need to run an install.bat to install and an uninstall.bat to uninstall. But however, you will need admin right to install the driver.

Imho it`s worth to make topologilinux truly portable. Linux could be preinstalled. This would open a lot more potentialities for world of portable apps.

klik (http://klik.atekon.de/ - It`s a english website.) is a website with a massive amount of portable applications desinged for linux. Most of them are open source. If we could run linux inside windows the windows users could profit from their big portable app database aswell too.

On that way we could be able to use some great programms which are availible for linux only, like xmms - a great open source winamp alternative.

I'll try out colinux and see

I'll try out colinux and see what I can do with it. Hopefully I'll be able to install from a CD or something because there's no way I can get a 1GB file system with dialup.

I got also

I got also http://www.topologilinux.com/ running, including gnome and internet connection.

The interest at this projects is not very high? Or is it just to big or to complicated?

When I tried to install it, it was the first time since 2003 when I saw the blue screen Pardon

If anyone wants help setting

If anyone wants help setting up CoLinux, I'd be happy to help. I have internet, X, and the ability to transfer files between the filesystem file and the hosting OS set up. In fact, my step is to get Xubuntu (for which I have an install CD) installed into a file for use with CoLinux if I can.

update: I got sound up, too. I'm excited.

@Bahamut

Now, did you get this running portably? I mean, in different computers?

Portably?

I've never even tried to use it portably. It's hard enough to get running on one machine. It requires admin rigths anyway. I can help you set it up to run non-portably.

Well, thanks but

Thanks but no thanks. I want to install it on my USB HDD and be able to take it with me. I finally figured out how to do it and boot from my USB, or if I prefer, use QEMU inside windows. But thanks anyways.

You have to run

You have to run run_to_install.bat and after you`re done you have to run run_to_uninstall.bat. It`s "some kind" of an installation.

Well

I've checked this out before and it didn't run for me.
Other than that, should be possible (maybe).

this software has updated and greatly improved...

Lots of new improvements in this software. It`s now working for me. Now it has an easy installer.

I can recommend this project anyone who is interested to run his linux apps on windows with (nearly 100 Wacko native speed, at least much faster then emulation.
