I'm sorry, probably my question was answerd earlier, but I can't found!
(I missed "sub-forum specified search feature" here)
Following:
I want install "FirefoxPortableESR_52.3.0_German.paf.exe" at memory-stick, for portable use.
I use local, persistent, a Firefox-Portable-Edition, updatet to V54.0.1 (64Bit).
Now, the Installer of the "FirefoxPortableESR_52.3.0_German.paf.exe" refuse the installation while the local firefox is running!
The local firefox is configured for multiple instances with "AllowMultipleInstances;true" in the "about:config"
I want no close my local Firefox, because informations from www are wishfull or important while working!
Any hints, ideas?

Soweit ich weiß, überprüft der Installer, ob bereits ein Prozess mit dem selben Namen wie der zu installierenden App läuft (firefox.exe in dem Fall) und bricht dann ab (u.a. um nicht ein eventuell aktives portables Profil zu zerlegen).
Einfach Firefox einmal kurz schließen um die Portable Version installieren.
Es gibt eine Alternative, die ich aber nicht unbedingt empfehlen würde: Man kann man auch einfach die paf-Datei in ein Verzeichnis entpacken z.B. mit 7-Zip. FirefoxPortable ist dann aus dem Verzeichnis heraus lauffähig. $Pluginsdir kann gelöscht werden. Es kommt eine Warnung, weil der Installer dann eventuell notwendige Anpassungen nicht machen kann, das ist bei einer Erstinstallation mMn aber nicht wichtig. Das ist aber nur eine Notlösung, ich würde die Verwendung des Installers vorziehen.
Short translation:
The installer checks, if a process with the same name as the app it installs is already running (firefox.exe). If positive, it cancels the installation to prevent messing with an existing profile.
Just close Firefox once to install the portable version.
Another option: Use 7-Zip to extract the paf into a folder. FirefoxPortable can be executed from there. $pluginsdir can be deleted. There is a warning because the installer could not make necessary adjustments, but this is mostly for updating an existing folder. This option is just a workaround, I would prefer using the installer.
Maybe John or someone with more insight in the firefox custom installer can correct me if I'm wrong.
This is correct. The AllowMultipleInstances setting allows multiple version of Firefox to run at the same time, but the PortableApps.com Installer does not. As depp.jones indicates, you'll only need to do this once to allow the update.
