Suggestions

1.Describe the game for us.

2.Give us a link that will take us to the game or a site with more information about it.

3.Don't presume that anyone is going to "get on your back", it seems hostile and makes your request less attractive. We are not the "freespire" forum, what ever that is.

This is the Request Forum.
You have made a Request.
This site has games,

No need to be defensive Smile

edit:
Ah, I see "now" what you meant by the"freespire" comment, that was a thread here at PAs, not a forum elsewhere. I wouldn't know one these "distributions" from an other,
I just call them all UNIX! :).

Looks like the thread did get a little heated Sad .
Just remember there is no "you" here [...dont get on my back like you did with ...], there's a bunch of "us", some more mellow than others.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

Huh?...

What exactly is/are "the old windows game chips"?...
I mean, at least some older Mac games use "ROM chips", but that don't apply to Windows. Your request lacks clarity.
Can you plz - or anyone else here who *does* understand what siler is talking about - explain more fully what is meant by this thread?...
Thx.

"and i know that it is not an app"?... Okay, but you fail to make clear what exactly it *is*...

"this site also has games"?... Um, *which* site? You didn't give us a link to any site, so we sit here scratching our heads.

I think he means

I am reading it as:

It is the name of an old Windows game called "Chips Challenge" or something like that.

and

"this site also has games"?... Um, *which* site?

This site [PortableApps.com] has games as well as other things. [There fore please to not get on my back about requesting a game.]

Ahhhh...............

Now I see what he (hopefully) means. Never heard of that game, tho'...

Now we see the importance of good punctuation. Enclosing "chips chalange" in quotation marks (like I just did) woulda made that clearer to us.

Anyhoo, I'd make the point that games most definitely *are* "apps" - it's just that they are a specialized TYPE of app, much as Word '97 is a type of bidness app and Photoshop is a type of graphics app, so a game is a type of entertainment app.

Don't think you'll see that program anywhere

Chips Challenge was part of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack for Windows 3.1. I believe there was a DOS version as well. That game you'll have to buy, if you can find that anymore.

I found out the only version that's freeware is a PocketPC version so making a portable Windows version appears to not be legally possible.

I don't know...

If anyone has played this, but I used to play it back when I was using a 95 machine. I believe it's called Hocus Pocus. It's a fun game for Windows. I haven't played it in a while though. I have it on a floppy disc somewhere. I'll see if I ca dig it up. I've checked the internet and can't find it so far...

It's NOT this one...

http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/game/109

NOT that one, just so no one asks me. But, is anyone can remember, it was a game kind of in a grid, with a small little character that travels from brick to brick trying to obtain things. I remember you had to obtain like boots, and something with fire. It was simplistic, with an overhead view. Anybody remember this? Because I believe it would be a GREAT game to have portably.

i remember it!!!

and i know it is kinda stupid to say that even thogh i was the one who suggested it! anyway"have some patience" has the idea down. it was in a kinda grid thingy and the little charicter (chip) had to go around brick by brick obtaining keys to open different doors and fire boots and ice scates and flipers all while avoiding "monsters" and other hasards. in my next post i will give the exact download link for it, better to have more than one!!!

Omgosh...

The Best of Windows Entertainment Pack.

It's so beautiful, I may just cry. My childhood came back to me when I saw Jezzball, and SkiFree, and the PIPE DREAM! OMGOSH! RODENTS REVENGE!?! Biggrin My whole childhood (though I'm only fourteen) is coming back to me! I've been longing these games ever since the day we got a new operating system, and the games were lost, forever, until now.

As well!

I've found that Pocket Chips Challenge. I haven't tried it yet, but I will once I play all these games for a few hours. Smile

Edit:
It seems to work good, it's basically just a launcher though. Let me know if you want me to send you the link. Because I had to remove them from hear because the Microsoft Games are commercial.

Old thread

Did you note that this thread is four and a half years old?

Anyway, it wouldn't be legal to distribute it.

you are all stupid! ha ha ha!

"chips challange" was a game that you could buy for any windows operating system. it used windows and not DOS. and on windows 95, unless you somehow found a way to rename the entire game it was still chips challange. also, another website you could get it from is http://www.download-full-games.com and just search "chips challenge", thogh it will show up as a MS-DOS program, i assure you having this on a computer that is running win-3.0,95 and xp that this program is able to run in windows.

change in plans!

i checked the site and i still havent activated my account as you will have to if you choose to use the "download full games.com" link. meaning you will have to sign up for an account. also, they have a few emulaters that would be cool as a portible app. the ones are the "commodore 64" emulater and the "commodore amiga" emulater. and i know that all of the "MS" games are listed under DOS but most are windows. this site also has a whole bunch of games for dos and windows as well as the c64/amiga. check it out! it is pretty cool!

Chips Challenge on other systems.

Actually, that's not true. I did see Wikipedia say something about a DOS version for Chips Challenge, and I did a search and there was one. Here's the information at Moby Games which also states that it was on other systems including Windows, Commodore 64, and lots of others. I will admit the Windows version looks better to me than what I saw screenshotwise on the Atari Lynx.

speaking of old games

anyone remember jezzball? i found a download at http://www.download-full-games.com/pc/arcade_action/jezzball.html but you have to have an account lik the other link i gave. its a game wher you start out with 2 red and blue balls and they are bounceing in this chamber and you take your mouse and click in certan places to fill them in and you have to fill in about 70% of the chamber and then the balls stop. then they keep adding in balls and make it a little bit faster!! its a good game. anyone with an older machine would know.

"you are all stupid! ha ha ha" ???

As you think we are all stupid I wonder how much help you're going to get when you come back.

You've been a member for less than 2 weeks and shown some unpleasant qualities already, in addition to not being able to express yourself very clearly [which might be why we appeared stupid] Perhaps a lesson in manners?

I will no longer be reading this thread.

Loved those old games!

I know I played a lot of Chips Challenge, Jezzball, TriPeaks, Tut's Tomb, Rodent's Revenge, Pipe Dream, Taipei, Ski Free and even Tetris. I wasn't too much of a fan of the Golf card game since that was pretty similar to TriPeaks but more difficult due to the fact that if you had a King on the discard pile you couldn't put any other card on it.

Ahhh those were good times.. and still play them today!

Chips Challenge etc

I do still have those games, and I am almost sure all of the games in that pack are portable. I just can't distribute them, they are proprietary, my friend.

You could try games that are similar (not to make a shameless plug). I know that there is chips challenge clone in sourceforge, although the graphics they chose are not nice.

A really good OS game is Escape (google it ) but it is not real time like chip's challenge, it is more like "Super Sokoban 4" with a lot of more stuff.

There are some other few open source games that would ressemble chip's challenge, some stuff in a game I made got direct inspiration from it...

yah!

yah i just realised that they are all portable. cuz i finaly got a crappy remake of chips challange and put it on my flash drive and it worked. it kinda sucks that we cant distro them, cuz there MS programs and not freeware n' stuff.
